When he’s not strolling through the landscapes of the Middle Elbe at Magdeburg in Germany, Mario Lobedan (German, 1961) paints.
Mario studied painting from 1989 to 1994 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig under Arno Rink and has for the past 25 years worked on his imagery. His brushwork – sometimes thrown loose, then again more juicy fluent or edgy – proves of professional composure. Mario Lobedan seems at first to allow an intuitive chaos which he then straightens up with a discerning sense for composition. It is a controlled straight on style which always already includes that the painter recedes, reflects, sometimes discards or again can reinvent. The untitled paintings and drawings testify of a very intensive painterly process of both the quest and the finding.
